The ICAR9 conference will be held at the Congress Centre of the Super Bock Arena, located within the stunning Palácio de Cristal gardens in Porto, Portugal. This modern and well-equipped venue offers an ideal setting for a fully in-person international conference, combining excellent facilities with the charm of its historic surroundings.

The Conference Centre in Super Bock Arena is surrounded by the “Palácio de Cristal” gardens, the heart of Porto. These gardens were designed by Emílio David (1839-1873), who was born in Berlin. Today, the Emílio David garden, at the main entrance, has beautiful specimens of rhododendrons, camellias, araucarias, ginkgos and beeches, as well as fountains and statues representing the seasons.

Tílias Avenue is the most strinking axis of this park and is flanked by the Almeida Garrett Municipal Library (where the Palace Gallery is located) and the Acoustic Shell. Nearby, there is a restaurant and a terrace overlooking the lake. On this avenue and elsewhere, there are strategic viewpoints offering panoramic views of the Douro River and the city. At the end of this avenue is the chapel that the Princess of Montléart had built in 1849, in honour of her brother, King Carlos Alberto – Chapel of Carlos Alberto da Sardenha.

Themed gardens are also represented, namely the Aromatic Plants Garden, the Medicinal Plants Gardens, the Twin Cities Garden and the Garden of Feelings, where the statue Dor (Pain) by Teixeira Lopes stands. Other pleasant areas includ the Woods, the Avenue of Indian Chestnut Trees and the Rose Garden, which is enriched with significant elements of the city’s artistic heritage. Nearby are seven magnificent examples of California palm trees

Set in a vibrant, colourful, and lively park, the Congress Centre is just a few minutes from the city centre, and 30 minutes away from Porto’s Franscico Sá Carneiro International Airport.
